An outbreak has occurred in Sunset City. Panic runs through the streets and its up to you to help!
Inside the can of an energy drink is a mutant virus and anyone who has had a sip of it has been contaminated. The energy drink is called Overcharge Delirium XT and those that drink it are now known as OD. In the game it is up to you to kill as many OD in as many different and stylish ways while completing missions and collecting items scattered throughout Sunset City. The game rewards you for style points and combos as you grind rails, jump cars and wall ride your way to taking care of the OD.
This game incorporates humor, creative weapons, big explosions, stunning colorful visuals, a variety of enemies and a lot of fun game play. Sunset Overdrive is truly a game that can be played over and over again and constantly sucks you in to see what else is out there in the open world.
You start off creating your character with a ton of clothing options, choosing your gender and of course the hair style. Throughout the game you are also able to edit your clothing style with items you unlock after missions or purchased items with the money you collect from missions, defeating the human enemies and destroying any Overcharge Delirium vending machines.
As you make your way through the streets of Sunset City you are introduced to the "Master of Badass Entrances" Walter and he brings you to his safe fort. This will be the area you can safely go to create Amps which help you level up the weapons and your actions through badges. You will also be able to purchase additional weapons here as well as reload on ammunition. This opening safe haven is just one of many more safe spots you can hang out in while you wait for more missions to complete.
The game is overloaded with areas to explore, enemies to defeat and weapons to purchase. My current favorites are the TNTeddy and The Dude. TNTeddy is awarded to you during the campaign and is a gun that shoots out a teddy bear with explosives tied to it. The Dude shoots out a bowling ball at rapid speed resulting in a perfect strike every time.
It's been heard that Sunset Overdrive is like playing Dead Rising with a mix of Tony Hawk and Crackdown. It is a combination I am very pleased with. To be able to roam Sunset City while grinding rails, wall riding and jumping my way through without touching concrete for several minutes is pretty cool.Combining that with the crazy hordes of OD and the occasional robots or human enemies is a perfect recipe for fun.
The achievements are fun and straight forward but can provide a bit of a grind when it comes to the amount of enemies you need to take care of. Another grind is the amount of money you need to spend on items, leveling up weapons or the collectibles around the City you need to grab.
Aside from the achievement variety, I feel the only downfall is if you only focused on the story campaign and didn't complete any extras you would be done the game in about twelve hours.
Sunset Overdrive - 90% Story/Features --- 95% Visuals --- 80% Achievement Variety --- 95% Playability --- Will it last on your play list for more than six months? Yes ---90% DP Overall Rating
