Performance Designed Products is well known for their Afterglow line of products and we were fortunate enough to get our hands on the Afterglow Prismatic Controller for Xbox One and Windows. Here at Infinite Reviews we put it to the test by playing several games, taking an in depth look at the design, getting all touchy, feely to see how it felt in our hands and then check the reach it gets due to the limitation of the wired feature.
All of this is always a factor in our decision of rating the controller and whether or not we are recommending the Xbox One Controller to the public.
It was a fun day in the Infinite Reviews House when we first received the package from PDP. The package contained the Afterglow Prismatic Controller as well as the Halo Wars 2 Banished Controller and an Afterglow AG9+ Wireless Headset. As the reviews become available you can read and watch all of those reviews on Infinite Reviews and Kouli Kollecter.
The first thing being tested was the length of the controller cable as this is a wired controller. It gets 10 feet which is a long reach for a wired controller but in my living room this still meant not being able to sit on the other end of the room on my recliner. The reach was still more than enough to sit and enjoy with ease on the side of my room which also has a couch situated in that space.
Plugging in the Afterglow Prismatic Controller into a laptop was next on the list and everything worked great. As I have mentioned before, I am more of a console gamer so after I played a bit on Windows I switched my focus to my Xbox One and plugged in my new PDP controller and began playing away with Disney Infinity first and then followed by Gears of War 4. Everything worked as I wanted and as I am used to with my Xbox One controllers. Flawless, just the way I like it.
We finished off our week of testing with the same type of treatment the Halo Wars 2 Banished Controller went through, a test of button mashing and comfort. While playing Killer Instinct, Infinite Reviews filmed the action to see how it would do during the play of a fighting game. It was easy to maneuver and to hold but it wasn't as smooth as the previous controller I had used because of the finish of the back. Since it is a clear, transparent casing, the backing is a hard plastic and my fingers tended to not glide as smoothly on the back of the controller. This is fine as this type of controller wouldn't be recommended solely for a fighting game but rather for other genres of games.
As you can see in the video below posted below by Kouli Kollector on YouTube, we tested out two Xbox One/Windows controllers from Performance Designed Products with the Halo Wars 2 and Afterglow versions on Killer Instinct.
The Afterglow PDP Controller comes with dual multi-function wheels with six programmable actions to customize at your discretion. Play around with it and see what works best for your style of gaming.
One really interesting feature which gets a 10 out of 10 in the extra features category of our scaling is the Afterglow App which is free on the Xbox Live Store and the customization of the vibration features and the color on the Afterglow controller. For a better look at these features be sure to view the video below.
The Afterglow Controller is highly recommended by us at Infinite Reviews especially for a different look to a collection of controllers. The color features are fantastic to have and very different from the standard Xbox One controllers out there right now. The controller is available through PDP for $49.99 USD.
