Pokemon Go was released in July of 2016 and I realize this story may be old news to some but to others it may have not even crossed their minds that Pokemon are all over DisneyWorld. Before we begin, let me tell you that we are huge Pokemon Go fans and even bigger fans of Disney and the huge Resort situated in Orlando, Florida.
We were at Walt Disney World Resort at the beginning of March and from the moment we stepped into the resort to when we left, it was a Pokemon Master's dream.
One week was just not enough time to visit the Resort, the four magical Parks and Pokemon "hunt", at least not enough time for your battery. If you plan on visiting Walt Disney World Resort and experience Pokemon Go , just know that you will need to pack a charger, extra backup battery and also remember that you're at Disney World so try to enjoy the park a bit too.
In our first day we captured the Lady Statue Gym at the Pop Century Resort and quickly loaded it with the families top Pokemon. Many more Team Instinct Pokemon Masters joined our gym and made it very strong. So strong, in fact, that we were the leaders of that Gym for a week.
Our first park was Animal Kingdom and as we entered the park we put the phones away for a while to enjoy our time there. Once I opened up Pokemon Go again, I was amazed that every ride was either a Gym or a Pokestop. It was also incredible how many Magikarp's there were. This was my chance to catch as many as I could to evolve my first Gyarados.
Our next several days we were discovering new Pokemon after new Pokemon and even running out of room in our bags from all the Pokestops being collected. It was chaos trying to delete items in time to continuously collect other items from pokestops.
Our favorite location was Tomorrowland in Walt Disney's Magic Kingdom Park. The area has close to 15 Pokestops that can all be hit with a short walk or if your "dogs are barking" (feet hurting) then you can actually ride one of the most relaxing and pretty cool rides - The Tomorrowland Transit Authority PeopleMover. There is no wait time if the ride is up and running and its basically a monorail type of ride that sits four riders per cart. The ride takes you around the Tomorrowland part of Magic Kingdom but it also takes you through some of the rides in the area.
You can hear the screams of the riders on the Space Mountain ride as they start their journey aboard the Starport. See the riders on the Space Ranger Spin and see Walt Disney's plan's for a Tomorrowland community. All of that action was experienced on The Tomorrowland Transit Authority PeopleMover and of course collecting Pokestops and best of all, hatching those Eggs.
Walt Disney World is always fun but when you combine it with an activity like Pokemon Go it makes walking and exploring even more entertaining. Thanks Disney and Pokemon for a great family vacation!
