The Tale Continues
As we ended Episode Four with Kate plowing through the safe wall of Richmond. Episode 5 starts with the fact that fans know this is the conclusion in Season 3 of the Walking Dead and we get right into it with the chaos that the town is now over run with walkers or as Javi has called them, Muertos.
Javi, David, Clem, Ava, Gabe and Kate are all trying to survive the aftermath of Episode Four and all are trying to find each other in the mess. As Javi rushes to the truck that bulldozed the wall, he is frantically looking to ensure Kate's safety but no such luck. Javi calls for Kate, he screams for her and no response. Javi is forced to fight off some Muertos close to the truck and give up hope when he finally sees her. The two hug and are ecstatic they are both safe. At this point David figures what is going on with his wife and his brother. The group gathers and they go to the rooftops of Richmond and make their way across by rooftop to stay alive from the looming death down below.
As the group tries to run the gauntlet and survive roof to roof, arguments break out of who's fault is the destruction down below. We learn more about the past of David and Gabe as Gabe's Father, David, always told his son, Gabe, to never rely on people like Javi and to never grow up to be someone like him. Javi is crushed. The former baseball star spent the better part of the zombie apocalypse protecting his brother's kids.
David and Javi fight as they still continue to survive, but now David finally finds out the feelings his brother has for his wife and loses it on his little brother. Javi is faced with a decision to fight back or to continuously tell his brother he loves him.
Without revealing too much more in this Series or in the Season 3 Finale for the Walking Dead, we know that this Season was emotional and incredibly well written. The story all Season focused on family values and how a family member, far removed from the core of the family still can make their way back into your heart and place of the soul of the family.
Controls & New Features
As mentioned in the previous Episode reviews, the
controls in this season have been improved to look and feel much more
fresh and cinematic than in previous Walking Dead seasons and other episodic adventures of
Telltale Games. We have the button selections embedded and cell
shaded in the cinematic experience of the game and not just displaying
as a flat looking button select as in previous seasons of The Walking
Dead.
Fighting with The Walkers or other groups has improved greatly. This can be thought of as an
advancement of these characters abilities as well. Since they have been
on the road for four years, they know a lot more about combat than they
did in previous seasons.
A
new addition to the Telltale Series Games titles is Crowd Play. It was
discussed in all of the previous Reviews but it still comes very highly
recommended to try at least once with family and friends. Crowd Play is a
fun feature to have people in the room play along with your decision
making and selections. The local multiplayer mode allows up to 12
players to help you with your decisions and your participants will be
accessing a unique website so only you and your family can take part in
the action.
Audio/Visuals
The
Walking Dead: A New Frontier is now a true cinematic adventure
rather than a video game with all the updates in graphics and seamless
cut scenes. The Walking Dead: A New Frontier Episode 5 continued the trend of getting darker and more gruesome and as you spend more time invested you become even
more emotional when anything happens to your friends and family. Bring your tissues as the Finale can get very emotional.
Conclusion
The
Walking Dead: A New Frontier provided us all year with a very emotionally
charged, and well written story and characters you can relate to immediately. All Season it's been about Family values, Family re-connection and of course Survival.
The
Walking Dead: A New Frontier Episode 5 - From The Gallows can be
finished in about 100 to 120 minutes and there are a few decisions to
make in this episode that will leave you to cringe or cry depending on what you
do or what is done to your family. Episode 5 was an extremely emotional
episode and had moments of gore and bloodshed as in all the past episodes. As always, try
out the episodes and the full game multiple times to get the full experience with multiple
outcomes.
The Walking Dead: A New Frontier is highly recommended and is available now on Xbox One, PS4 and PC. Check it out here.
